VOCAL IMPROV WORKSHOP:
Fear into Fun-tastic

JoannaFinchBike2.webp

This Vocal Improv Workshop is an inclusive three-hour immersive experience for all abilities of vocalists, actors and play-curious people... And ANYONE who likes to have fun! Activities include vocal toning, call and response, chants. group and duo games and exercises that take the fear out of singing and make it fun-tastic!  Suitable for all ages and abilities.

A classical and jazz trained singer/recording artist with a background in theatre, dance and human service work, Joanna takes her interest of natural sounds into the metaphysical, believing that the sounds we make with our voices and bodies help to create the physical world we live in. "Wild Singing" liberates the voice to express sounds and songs that are enlivening, connective and sometimes hilarious. Our voices are powerful tools in healing and celebration. When we listen to our authentic voice and follow the movements of our natural rhythm we rediscover our interconnectedness with nature and each other. When we still our minds and listen with our whole bodies, sound is both nurturing and healing.

About Your Facilitator

On Vancouver Island in the Salish Sea archipelago, where Nature is her greatest teacher, Joanna Finch began her musical journey as a classical singer at the Victoria Conservatory, while honing her gifts for mimicry and physical comedy for friends and classmates. Several lead parts in theatre productions followed by vocal jazz training, broadened her styles and "method" approach to singing, distinguishing her as a diverse and eclectic musical artist. With a four octave range, a flair for writing in many genres and eras, and a very creative approach to live performances, using body percussion, whistling, bird sounds, and her remarkable vocal cornet, Joanna is a uniquely exciting performer. Travels to France, China, Antigua, Cuba, Ecuador and Bali have broadened her multilingual songs and added to the stories from “home.”

A prolific songwriter, Joanna has produced several studio albums and is recording a soul/pop album in the winter of 2026. The SALISH SEA SIREN SINGS is Joanna's solo project that she is touring across Canada in the fall of 2025 as a guest musician on Via Rail, from Vancouver to Halifax, looking forward to playing concerts and workshops in cities along the way.
