A Walk in the Woods at Twisted Roots Farm

fall image.jpg

Over the years, we have established hiking trails throughout the forest here at Twisted Roots Farm that highlight the diversity of this very special place.  The brook and adjacent riparian zone run through the heart of this land hosting a diversity of life, home to ancient sugar maples, red maples, yellow birch, paper birch, ash, beech, elm, hemlock, spruce, and white pine.

October is an amazing time of year to witness the transition of the seasons, and our walk in the woods offers some incredible views of this colour display. The trail follows the brook for a good portion of the hike weaving through a rich and lush riparian landscape and then moves into higher areas offering ridge line views of the brook with a birds-eye perspective of beech, maple, and birch trees growing along the ridge down to the brook. We follow a path that winds through the tree elders of this land, giving us time to pause and take in the beauty and wisdom that they offer to this dynamic forest ecosystem.

After the hike, a pizza lunch from Pizzeria Ascente will be served in our newly built Butterfly Lodge along with some refreshments.  The folks at Pizzeria Ascente can cook up an awesome pizza, made by hand with locally-sourced, farm fresh ingredients.  A great way to wind up our walk in the woods.

This is an advanced hike on backwoods trails with some steep incline and brook crossings.  The hike itself is about an hour depending on stops and conversation points along the way.  We will discuss features of this bio-diverse ecosystem and talk about ways we can learn to build relationships with wild communities through nature awareness practices.
