These unscented tallow candles are handcrafted in small batches at our farm using local hand-rendered grass-fed and grass-finished beef tallow. They contain only one simple ingredient: 100% tallow with a single cotton wick.
The 75 gram candles are hand-poured into 4 ounce glass mason jars that come with a lid so they can be reused/recycled after use.
Tallow candles have a very clean burn, resulting in no wax buildup remaining at the bottom of the jar once the candle has been completely burned down. To clean the jar, simply remove the wick tab and wash the jar in warm soapy water.

We believe in providing non-toxic, locally-sourced offerings, which is one reason that we love these tallow candles! Unlike paraffin wax, which is a petroleum product, and soy wax, which is a highly processed, GMO product, tallow only needs to be melted once during the rendering process, does not contain chemicals or toxins, and is produced right where we live. When you purchase our tallow candles, not only are you supporting our farm, but you are also supporting other small local farms in Nova Scotia.
As our candles are a natural, preservative-free, animal-based product, it is best used within 6 months to a year and should be stored in a cool, dark location. With proper storage, they can last much longer. All ingredients are whole and natural, therefore there will be subtle differences between each item. This is the beauty of handcrafted offerings.
Burning Directions and Tips:
- Trim the wick before lighting (every time) between ⅛” to ¼” long for a cleaner and brighter burn. Not trimming can cause the wick to mushroom = a dull flame
- Never put out a candle until the entire 1st layer of wax has melted all the way across. Not doing this creates a memory ring = a tunneled candle
- Candles should not burn for more than 4 hours at a time
- Be aware that the jar will become hot once the candle is lit
- Use the jar lid or a candle snuffer to put out the flame instead of blowing on it which leads to the formation and spread of black ash particles stuck in the wax
- After putting out the flame, let the candle sit for 2 hours to cool before relighting
All of this may seem like extra work, yet it really will make your candle burn better and last much longer. In all of our candle test burns using these directions, they have burned clean with no residue, have had a bright and solid flame, and have lasted for many hours overall.
