Dandelion Salve

Our dandelion salve is made with handpicked dandelion flowers from our farm.  They are not sprayed, so you can be sure that you are only using the highest quality ingredients on your skin.  After drying the dandelion flowers to ensure the salve doesn't spoil, they are then slow-infused for many weeks in our pastured lard from our heritage breed pigs, drawing out all of the healing properties from the flowers, which creates a stunning deep yellow color.  One of our customers calls it “sunshine in a tin!”  

 

The infused oil is then mixed with local raw beeswax to create the perfect consistency for use as a salve.  The salve is poured into one ounce tins, which are made in the US, and come with a screw-on lid.

 

Dandelion salve is wonderful for cracked and dry skin, especially for those of you who work with your hands, such as gardeners, farmers, and mechanics.  I have even used it on my lips as a lip balm and found it to be very moisturizing.  It can also be a soothing rub for muscle aches, joint pain and achy and arthritic joints.  

 

And as lard contains saturated fats, the same as human skin, it absorbs easily and is highly moisturizing on its own.  I render the lard using a low heat, ensuring that the end result is a high quality, odorless oil, perfect for salves and other body products, such as our lard soaps and lotion bars.

The salve should be used within 6 months as it does not contain any preservatives or synthetic ingredients.  To prolong the life of your salve, please store it in a cool, dark spot or in the fridge.

All of our salves are free from:

• Essential oils
• Artificial fragrance
• Parabens
• Pesticides
• Toxic chemicals
• Dyes/colorants
• Coconut oil
• Palm oil

All of the ingredients for our salves are sourced directly from our gardens and forest here at our farm, other than the beeswax, which is locally sourced from a small producer and is 100% pure beeswax.  

 

We make all of our creations here at our home in small batches, working with what is available seasonally from this land.  

 

And although we are not registered organic, we practice no-spray, no-till farming methods, feeding our furry and feathery friends certified organic grains.  

 

Tremendous care and love goes into everything we do here as we strive to live with this land in a healthy and reciprocal way, ensuring that future generations, both human and the more-than-human community, always have this special place to gather.
